FAQ on reporting

The Netherlands Labour Authority can handle reports that relate to unfair, unhealthy and unsafe working conditions. More information about the Netherlands Labour Authority

Employees, occupational health and safety professionals, members of a works council or employee representative body and also trade unions or third parties can make reports.

The Working Conditions Act states that a work-related accident is an event at work or during working hours that (almost) immediately leads to death or damage to your health and results in absenteeism.

You are obliged to report an accident immediately in the event of:

• death
• permanent injury, such as blindness, amputation or chronic complaints
• hospitalisation

Note:

• If the casualty is not hospitalised or does not suffer permanent injury immediately after the accident, but does this only become apparent later, you must report the accident as soon as possible.
• Not only accidents of your own employees must be reported. You are also obliged to report accidents involving persons working under your authority, such as agency workers and freelancers.

If you do not report the work-related accident immediately, you are violating the Working Conditions Act. You can be fined for this. More information about fine (Dutch)

Not only accidents of your own employees must be reported. You are also obliged to report accidents involving persons working under your authority, such as agency workers and freelancers.

The employer and employees are obliged to cooperate fully with the investigation and to provide all desired information.

In principle, anonymous reporting is possible, but in that case, we cannot consult you or inform you about the processing of your report. To process your report in the best possible way, please provide us with your contact details. We may then contact you if information is missing or if there are any ambiguities about your report. It also allows us to keep you informed of the processing of your report.

Your report will be registered and assessed by employees of the Reporting Unit. They check whether there is a potential violation of labour law. The report may be further investigated by an inspector. The inspector may contact you about the report.
